Bella's Fine China Collection

What inspired this collection?

I have always loved collecting china plates. After building up a collection I thought about how unique it would be to make jewelry out of broken china pieces. I started breaking the plates and learning about glass cutting. I started in my garage with my families help and cut and smoothed each individual piece. I love the look of these porcelain pieces and think they add such a cool element to silversmithing. I thought about this idea last year but its been in the makes since the beginning of this year. :)

Tell us about yourself! What do you do outside of Gem Studio?

I love film photography, hiking with my dog Lottie, hanging out with my friends and fam, skiing, hammocking, going on picnics, thrifting, and I love going to concerts! I’m planning on studying business at Utah State University this fall so I’m excited about that.

What is currently playing on your Spotify?

Some of my favorite bands right now are TV Girl, Dope Lemon, Inner wave, Dr. Dog, and Still Woozy.

What was your favorite part about shooting at La Callie !

La Callie was so magical and beautiful. I feel like it captured the theme perfectly. I was able to shoot with my two best friends so it was super special and the best time ever. We ate macaroons and yummy grapes.

What is your favorite thing about Utah?

My favorite thing about Utah is the wide variety of hikes. I love being outside in nature and I love how many fun things there are in such close proximity. Utah has amazing thrifting and concerts which are some of my two favorite things :^).

What do you want to manifest in your life over the next year?

I want to manifest learning and growing as an individual especially starting college and this new chapter in my life ✨

What is your favorite gem, and why?

My favorite gems are turquoise and ocean jasper. Before I worked at Gem, I came in with my family and we made matching raw turquoise rings. This was my first gem ring and I have always loved turquoise ever since. Ocean jasper has the most amazing unique designs so that's one of my favorites as well.

What is your favorite part of the silversmithing process?

I love soldering. It is so cool seeing it melt and connect with the silver. I also love dunking it in the water. Soooo satisfying.

What's your favorite gem studio memory?

One of my favorite gem memories is when we all had a workshop during a crazy winter storm. It was so bad we all thought we had to camp out at gem. We got pillows and blankets and prepared to have a lil sleepover haha. Luckily the snow cleared up! It was the best.
