Tell us about yourself! What do you do outside of Gem Studio?

When I’m not working at the Gem Studio, I’m an English student at BYU, so I spend lots of time reading. Outside of school, I love being terrible at piano, watching lots of TV, and doing anything and nothing with my friends. I love spending time in the sun, especially because Utah summers cannot be beat!

What inspired this collection?

Pink! In my mind, it is the superior color. I think pink embodies and reminds me of all the best things about life: flowers, cotton candy, the girls! I would be remiss if I didn’t quote my favorite movie, because Elle Woods has pink nailed: “Whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed.”

What are you most passionate about?

People. Relationships are my favorite part of life! Chatting with kind strangers, calling my parents twelve times a day, going to my friends’ homes unannounced; fostering relationships with others is what life is all about, right? And I must say, being passionate about people makes the sociality of this job that much sweeter, so come in and be my pal!

What is currently playing on your Spotify/Apple Music?

I am limited by no single genre, and love the chaos of shuffling all of my music at once. I consistently find myself listening to the Beatles, though, and usually have no intention of playing anything else. Stream Abbey Road!

What do you want to manifest in your life over the next year?

I want to manifest knowledge! Learning rules, and I think they say knowledge is power, so I feel like that’s a good objective. We have much to learn from one another, so I am always looking to increase the contents of my brain with stuff from other people, places, and experiences.

What is your favorite gem, and why?

It would be more true to form if I said something pink, but turquoise cannot be beat! My mom had the most beautiful turquoise jewelry that I loved to mess with when I was a kid, and to this day I believe nothing compares. Each piece of turquoise is so unique, but that blue gets me every time!

What is your favorite part of your job?

The craftsmanship it takes to make a Gem Studio piece is by far my favorite thing about work. Seeing people come in and surprise me with how creative and talented they are is so special. Collaborating with strangers and making something beautiful is so singular to this job, and I am amazed every day by this process. It never gets old!

What is your favorite gem studio memory?

After my very first shift, some of my favorite coworkers and I closed up and talked about how great working for the Gem Studio really is. I remember getting in my car feeling so giddy to come back to work for my next shift. Every day I make new favorite memories here because it is just the best job!
